10 Nigerians Making a Difference in 2026

Every year, we set out to find the people whose work rarely makes headlines but genuinely changes lives. This year's list spans education, healthcare, technology and the arts — proof that impact takes many shapes.

There is the primary school teacher in Kano who built a free after-school reading program that has now reached over 400 children. There is the young engineer in Port Harcourt whose solar micro-grid startup is powering three rural clinics that previously had no reliable electricity.

We also spoke with a nurse-turned-advocate in Enugu pushing for better maternal healthcare policy, and a group of university students in Ile-Ife who built a free tutoring platform used by thousands during the last academic year.

What connects all ten people on this list is not scale — some of their projects are still small — but persistence. Each of them saw a specific, local problem and simply started working on it, often with no funding and no fanfare.

As one honoree told us, "Nobody was going to fix this for us, so we started with what we had." That sentiment, more than any single achievement, is why we keep telling these stories every year.
