Home & Living: Small Space, Big Style
Living in a small apartment does not mean living without style. The key, interior stylists say, is choosing a handful of pieces that do real work — visually and functionally — rather than filling every corner with things that just take up space.
Multi-purpose furniture is the obvious starting point: a storage ottoman, a bed frame with drawers, a dining table that folds away. But the bigger shift is often about what you remove rather than what you add.
Light matters more than most people realize. Mirrors placed to catch natural light, pale walls, and sheer curtains instead of heavy drapes can make a modest room feel considerably larger without spending anything on furniture at all.
Finally, resist the urge to decorate every wall. A few well-chosen pieces — a piece of local art, a shelf of books you actually reread — say more about a home than a wall crowded with items chosen just to fill space.
